The ICT-48 Eropean Networks of Excellence (NoEs) have made significant strides in advancing AI research, with AI4Media, ELISE, HumanE-AI-Net, and TAILOR leading innovative projects and contributing to the development of AI technologies across Europe. AI4Media has been instrumental in enhancing the AI landscape for the media industry, with initiatives such as the AI Media Observatory, a comprehensive Strategic Research Agenda, and impactful open calls. ELISE has supported groundbreaking AI applications through SME collaborations and shaped international AI governance. Meanwhile, HumanE-AI-Net has fostered a new scientific community focused on Hybrid Human-AI Intelligence, and TAILOR has introduced essential educational resources and policy contributions in Trustworthy AI. These networks continue to drive AI advancements that are crucial for Europe’s digital future.

AI4Media Junior Fellows Exchange Program

This program facilitates exchanges for early-career researchers in AI for media, enabling collaboration with leading AI researchers and media companies. To date, it has supported 88 exchanges across Europe, producing significant research outcomes.

AI4Media Open Calls: Empowering Research and Applications in AI Media

AI4Media’s open calls funded 20 innovative projects in AI and media, providing equity-free funding, coaching, and promotional support to entrepreneurs and researchers across Europe.

International AI Doctoral Academy (AIDA)

AIDA is a pan-European organization promoting AI excellence in PhD education, uniting top academics to provide high-quality AI courses and resources to students. It has successfully offered over 80 courses and 50 lectures, benefiting thousands of students and professionals.

LLMaker: Consistent Game Content Creation via Function Calling for Large Language Models

LLMaker is a tool for game content co-design, enabling designers to create game environments using natural language commands. It leverages large language models to generate visual assets that align with the designer’s creative vision.

ELISE has produced two versions of its Strategic Research Agenda, which have been distributed to relevant policy makers in the European Commission, industry leaders, and fellow networks under the ICT-48 call.

Built a Scientific Community Around Hybrid Human-AI Intelligence through co-creating a new scientific conference (HHAI) with the Dutch Hybrid Intelligence Network

HumanE-AI-Net, in collaboration with the Dutch Hybrid Intelligence Network, has co-created the Hybrid Human-AI Intelligence (HHAI) conference, the first specialized international venue dedicated to this emerging field. Since its inception, the conference has attracted over 200 attendees in just three years and has already planned future events for 2025 and 2026. HHAI focuses on creating AI systems that assist and collaborate with humans, emphasizing adaptive, collaborative, responsible, and human-centered intelligence. The conference bridges AI with disciplines like HCI, cognitive and social sciences, philosophy, ethics, and complex systems.

Created Early-on political events to drive changes in the European Agenda related to Generative AI Research and Adoption

We led the organization of an event in the European parliament called: “Beyond ChatGPT: How Can Europe Get Ahead in Generative AI?” aims to bring together AI experts, policymakers, and other stakeholders to demystify and critically examine some of the key concepts and concerns, and to provide an opportunity for a well-grounded discussion of the question of what needs to be done to ensure that European economies and societies will benefit from the development and deployment of AI technologies, such as LLMs. The goal was to discuss how should Europe reshape it’s research to have relevant GenAI tools with European Values. The event contributed to subsequent changes in research calls.

TAILOR AI-Powered Collaboration Tools

TAILOR is developing AI-powered collaboration tools to foster new partnerships within the research community. These tools not only facilitate collaboration but also allow researchers to apply AI theory to practice, enhancing the development of Trustworthy AI within the network.

TAILOR and Standardisation

TAILOR is working closely with standardisation bodies like CEN and CENELEC to ensure that AI can be applied to critical services safely and effectively. Their efforts focus on aligning AI developments with societal goals and values, and on standardising technical requirements for safety, robustness, and resilience.

TAILOR Connectivity Fund

The TAILOR Connectivity Fund has supported research mobility for 80 young European AI researchers and organized 20 workshops. Research mobility, particularly at the early career stage, enhances academic performance, leading to higher impact publications, greater risk-taking, and the establishment of new scientific trajectories.

TAILOR Contributions to European Policy Making

The TAILOR Network plays a pivotal role in shaping European AI policy. Coordinated by Fredrik Heintz, the network advocates for strategic AI investments and a policy framework that meets the needs of European businesses and citizens, ensuring the responsible development of AI across the EU.

TAILOR Video Series “Trustworthy AI Explained”

The “Trustworthy AI Explained” video series introduces the concept of Trustworthy AI, featuring insights from top European researchers and young scientists.
